How do I get my Great Dane puppy to stop destroying our house when we leave him home alone?
He is a 7 month old Great Dane, and we got him when he was 5 weeks old, so he is very attached to me and my girlfriend. When he is left home alone, he destroys anything he can get too, mostly paper. Even if we only leave him home for a few minutes, he will start to destroy. He also does this if he thinks we aren't home, even if we really are. We don't really want to spend 300 bucks on a kennel that we don't really have room for anyway, and muzzling him is just sad. He knows when what he has done is bad because before we even see the messes he makes, he runs and hides, so it can't really be that he senses we're angry with him. Also, we don't have a fenced in yard, so leaving him outside isn't an option either, not to mention he hates the cold.
Well that $300 crate will quickly save you tons of money from torn up floors and furniture. Your choice.
You could try leaving him in the bathroom, but that will probably get torn up too.

He's a pup, if you leave them alone with the run of the house that's what they'll do. Destroy.

went to seven months old Great Dane?
ok so I traveled 3 hours to see this guy and was in a kennel that breeds small dogs .... was in a pen in the barn like all dogs constantly barking the whole time I was there ... and was huddled in the corner like all the noise that was driving him crazy ... I went and I was stroking, but he made no move to get closer and he was not aggressive in any way, but withdrew completely ... has not yet been appointed and has never been on a leash ... is all depends todate on shots and a very nice dog .. looking about 28 inches tall and 85 pounds ... only 7 months ... I really want it, but I worry about the way he was acting ... Do you think that was the atmosphere that was? .. the man who said he was givin him a friend .... I have really wanted out of there but not sure if I should ...
If you have any doubt in your mind that will not make a good pet, whatever up and find another. Do not take someone else's problems just because you feel sorry for the dog. If you think this is something the authorities to handle, they call them. A good puppy will be out and kind and wants to be around people. Loud noises frightened him, but not freak out. I suggest looking for another puppy and place of reporting to the authorities.
