I Need Help About Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs?
I want to adobt a greater swiss mountain dog and here is a photo of hers; http://img222.imageshack.us/i/32881768.jpg/
I want to adopt her but i have several issues about this issue.
1) I'm kinda suspicious about their size, big, scary for most and I think she might cause obedience problems like biting or attacking the owner.
2)I dont want to make her slave at home because I live in a flat so she wont have so much space to run freely. I can walk her maybe once a day... Might this cause psychological problems on her?
3)I think that dog will be costy. What do they eat? How much do they eat regularly in a day? How much her food will cost me per day?
4)Lastly, is she cute? ^^
1. They are usually very friendly dogs. One problem that I have encountered with them is same-sex aggression in dogs that aren't spayed/neutered. If you aren't comfortable with a giant breed, DO NOT get one. This is a very strong-minded breed that will take over your house and can develop temperamental problems if you are in control.
2. For a giant breed, they are pretty high energy. That is no where near enough exercise for her. She should get 1-2 hours of physical exercise everyday, meaning a walk of 1 mile (absolute minimum), time to run around a yard, and more. She also needs plenty of mental exercise with obedience training and socializing.
3. You need to get quailty dog food, especially for a giant breed. You should get a grain free dog food that doesn't have bi-products or fillers. Some good brands are EVO, Solid Gold, and Wellness. Do a raw diet if possible, but it is expensive to have such high quality food.
4. She is a cute puppy, yes. But, for a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, she is ugly. She doesn't have the right head shape or ears. Where are you getting her from? Are you adopting or buying from a breeder? If this dog is from a breeder, do not buy it. You should have asked all these questions to the breeder and they should produce a better pup than that, even for pet quality. She is cute for a puppy in general though, but I am a sucker for any puppy.
