Grooming An Australian Shepherd Q&A
What type of hybrid puppy should I get from my local animal shelter?
Well my local animal shelter seems to be unusually stocked with pups, they have many types, i'm wondering what type you think I should get? They have:
Puggle Puppies (Beagle x Pug hybrid)
Border Aussie Puppies (Border Collie x Australian Shepherd hybrid)
Chiweenie Puppies (Chihuaha x Dacshund hybrid)
Pitweiler Puppies (Pitbull x Rottweiler hybrid)
Labrador Retreiver Puppies
Border Collie Puppies
I am only saying there 'designer' (portmanteau) names because I did research pn the breeds and thats what came up.
I am a well fo young man with a wife and twin boys that are 5 years old, I own acerage but it's not used for working, I am able to walk my dags for 1 - 2 hours daily and I will also have a personal dog groomer that will come in once a week to groom my dog. So money and facilities aren't an issue, what do you guys think?
You need to spend time each dog, see how they interact with the kids and you.
Border collie will heard your kids, as do Aussies, Chi/Doxie are sometimes nervous around kids.
Labs can be wild childs and sometimes too wild around small kids.
Pug/beagle- not a bad mix, but beagle are stubborn to train in recall. Pugs can be nervous
Since most of these dogs are mixes there is no way to tell you how each of the individual dogs will be.
Just so you know they are not hybrids, hybrids are the mating of 2 different species.
These dogs are just mutts or mixed breed dogs, nothing wrong with that.
Oh I forgot the Pit/Rott. Both of these dogs are great but you have to spend the time in training, socializing, exercising and lots of mental stimulation. Plus it will be a big dog.
add: None of these dogs would require a weekly grooming except for a good brushing several times a week. You should be able to do that for free.

Grooming An Australian Shepherd Q&A
Any advice on Showing Australian shepherds?
I'm going to start showing pastors Australia in May. I know the basics (stacking and all that), but I would like to know if there are any pet care tips or show that'll make my stand a little more Australian.
If you can teach for free battery (which is where the perfect stop on a shot) and move very well with loose belt, will make you and your dog look better in court. The free battery basically tells the judge that the dog is so well built that stops at a position perfect in itself. You can train the dog to make the use of blocks (the things that you can move around the pile of dog) and basically used the muscle memory to teach the dog pile. You can use canned vegetables with non-slip rubber mats (as you put in the drawers) as well. Just put the dog them for a few minutes each day, and be sure of praise and bait them while they are in them. The slack is just training and working on it. If you can get the dog to go in front of you is even better. That shows how well trained the dog is and how much they like to show. Both are positive for the judge. This is a good site Web information management: http://nipissingkennelclub.com/handle4.htm am no longer in the know when it comes to grooming Australians to show (the I have shown, but which had already been prepared), but I know they have to be "soft." Should be flushed and puffy before each show. I would like try to find a breeder Aussie / driver (preferably where you got the dogs that show if they are yours) and ask for advice. The best advice I can give you is fun for you and the dog. If you do not win remember that it is just a show. If you get too nervous or anxious to show the dog will sense it and do evil. Have fun!
