Horse Breeder Directory Q&A
Horse/Pony Producers?
What exactly is a horse producer (no, i don't mean a breeder)
For example, if on an ad you see "producing horses to an exceptional standard" or "producer of quality show jumping horses"
Do they mean the training of the horse?
And does it apply to just their horses, or is it training of someone else's horse as well?
I have a booklet that's like a directory full of phone numbers for different horse things (tack shops, photographers, trainers, riding schools and so on) and it says horse producers.
One of them, for example says this:
"Producing horses-jumpers
stallions at stud. horses for sale. training available. horses taken on to show jump."
Does that mean that they train other people's horses?
Sorry if it's kind of a confusing question..
In the UK it will normaly mean that the producer has broken, schooled and shown that horse and produced the horse for a certain level of competition.
For example over here you might have a 3 yearold horse that is jumping massive jumps whilst loose jumping however you dont have the nessecary time, experiance, confidence (or some other reason you cant do it yourself) so you would send it to a producer and they would do the work for you and school that horse untill it was competing at a certain level. Of course you would have to pay for it.
A proffessionaly produced horse is normaly an absolutley lovely ride, however producers can tend to take on quirky horses so be prepared for it not all thier horses are quirky (i promise) but with talent quite often comes diva like tendancies (from horses that is). I know of very few high level competition horses that dont have some form of quirk, could be as mild as it doesnt like rugs being put on a certain way, or could be something much more quirky.
I'd always be inclined to go look at a produced horse if you are looking for a horse. The producers reputation is on the line so they tend to be quite honest about the horse andits quirks.
yes that last advert means that they take on other peoples horses to train and showjump.

A horse is normally produced proffessionaly a lovely walk Absolutley, But producers may tend to assume peculiar horses so be prepared for that not all horses are unique (I promise), but with a talent often comes as diva tendencies (of horses that is). I know of very few horses high level of competition that does not have some kind of whim, could be so mild that you do not like carpets are putting in a way, or it could be something much more extravagant. I had always inclined to go for a horse produced if you are looking for a horse.
