Question about Bernese Mountain Dogs...?
I really want a Bernese Mountain Dog. But my parents want to know some more stuff about them before they think if we think about getting one, so I was hoping that people (preferably who have one themselves) can tell me about their experiences.
-Do they shed a lot? My dad is slightly allergic to certain dogs and cats.
-How active are they?
-Are they at all aggressive?
-About how much do they cost (to buy)?
-About how much do you spend on them per year (food, toys, vet fees, etc)?
-Are they easy to train?
-We live in an apartment, so my dog would spend all of his time indoors except when we went for walks. How many times a day do you walk yours?
-Finally, if the dog is a male, would you recommend neutering?
They are good dogs. They do shed because they are a double coated breed, their intelligent, gentle, they would cost probably 1200$- 1500$, and one thing to keep in mind would be they are prone to cancer and only live about 8 years if that sadly.

how to feed my dog?
I have a 10 month old Bernese mountain dog, i feed him about 2 cups of dry dog food day 3x, is much more than this / is not sufficient and why people mix canned dog food in the dry? is that I have something to do? as I posted earlier problems with it spilling LOT and I was wondering if i mix a can of food that possibly help? i in these difficult economic times can not afford 20 or $ 30 for a bag of good dog food called and asked me if there is anything i can buy cheaper? i currently feed Pedigree large breed puppy and apparently my last post I guess it is a food any suggestions out there that cost a small fortune? very bad indeed, weighs about 90 pounds!: 0
To be honest w / ~ that I fed my dog Pedigree for years. The tree started as a puppy and fed it to him for 12 years. So what happens is to make a research and found that grocery store dog foods are the worst of all, so I changed and now my dogs eat dogs, along w / some fruits and vegetables ~ today, my little guy is 19yrs old and still going strong. Dog food is a personal preference ~ there are many dog food today there are high quality comprehensive brand ~ in general, you really want to stay away from foods supermarket, most of them are not but without nutrient loads, and most products that contain a period of time causes health problems / disease, etc. You want to feed your pet a nutritious, remember that if you go cheap, then you are only prepared to adjustment problems later in the road. If you have access to a Petsmart and Petco, or do several selling brands of dog food of high quality, but here is a list of some good brands of blue Buffalo Chicken Soup for canine lovers-evo Innova Eagle Pack Natural California Natural Balance Nature's Variety Timberwolf Pet Listings are a high quality food for dogs, but I think the only thing that is in Petsmart / Petco is Blue Buffalo brand and is similar in price to the Ancestors. Just remember, in the search for a dog food 05.03 always check the ingredients first, and do not want anything w / products periods. I feed mine Canidae ~ I have mine w/1T can mix 1/4C 3 times daily from the mines are under 10 pounds only for variety or flavor and something different. I also use fresh vegetables such as beans, peas and carrots, with fruits such as bananas and blueberries.
