My dog had a large wee before and it was very red as though there was a lot of blood in it?
She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, is 7 1/2 years old and is overweight. She has never had anything wrong with her before (even minor ailments) so I am extremely worried about her. She was spayed around 3 or 4 years ago. Could anybody tell me what causes this.....I would appreciate as much information as possible as to any possible cause. I know I need to see the vet as it seems serious, but in the meantime, please could you help me with any possibility of what it is. Thanks for taking your time to read this.
Take her to the vet, ASAP. It's probably a urinary infection, in which case she will need antibiotics. But it could also be also be kidney stones or something even more serious.
This happened to my dog when she was about that age. It was a urinary infection, but they had us do a couple of follow up appointments after she finished the meds, just to make sure it wasn't kidney stones.
Again, take her to the vet. If the infection (or whatever else it may be) is to the stage where you can visably see blood with the human eye, it probably isn't going to get better on its own and could eventually lead to very serious problems such as kidney failure and death. She needs to get on meds as soon as possible.
If ist's a urinary infection, one or two rounds of antibiotics should clear it right up, but be sure to do a follow up appointment when she is finished with the meds to make sure the infection is gone. Just because you can no longer see blood doesn't mean it is necessarily cleared up.
