I adopted a Jack Russell who is 9 years old. He previously lived in a good home for 5 years and was placed?
with an awesome foster family for 1 week. (That is all the information we know) You can tell that he is spoiled rotten-- jumps on furniture, kind, not afraid of anyone/anything, and just a great dog. No behavioral problems. He follows me around during the day and sleeps closely by my side at night. However, he only licked me once. I had him for 2 weeks already. Will we ever bond? Does he still miss his family/host family? Does he think that I am just doggie sitting him? Please share your opinions/ideas/thoughts!
** Addition: I am the one who feeds him, walks him, buys him a lot of toys/treats, bathes him, etc.
Addition: sometimes, I would ask him to kiss me. He would make a funny noise and move away. Being JRTs, he has an expressive face and you can tell that he is uncomfortable. All the dogs at the dog park love to kiss me. Last, he can sure eat and play!!
He sounds like he may just be more aloof in that way than you're used to. One of my dogs rarely licks anyone's face. He's very loving in other ways but he just doesn't do kisses except on rare occasions. My other dog is like the car wash of love, so it's not such a bad thing. He sounds like a great dog. I adopted one of mine when he was 9 too. I know everyone goes wild over puppies, but you can't beat an older dog in my book. Best wishes to both of you!
