My dog is losing fur. What is it and will it grow back ?
My dog max is 13 or 14 years old we have had him for 12 years(I was 4 when I got him) and he is a mix of Chiwawa and Jack Russell Terrier he and he has a club front left paw. He started losing his fur last year. We thought that it was because of the fleas but he doesn't have them anymore and he is still losing fur in patches. My dog groomer said it isn't mange because my other do would have it and there are no cuts on him....I just can't figure out what it is and I am petrified to take him to the vet because I don't want them to say we have to put him down, he is my best friend and I don't want to lose him .....Does anyone have any idea what I could do to help it ? Maybe diff foods or something....
He needs to go to the vet for a skin scraping to rule out demodectic mange. Your groomer is wrong!! This form of mite is NOT contagious but spread from mum to newborn pups. In fact most dogs will have a few of these tiny mites. As your dog is aging he may have reduced immunity which can allow the mites to over produce.
If it is mange, he will need a course of oral ivermectin to banish the little buggers!!
Often a change of diet will help boost the immune system and prevent outbreaks. Look into raw diets as these are more easily digested and don't contain the inappropriate ingredients of most commercial foods.

Confused about Russell Jack Russell or Parsons?
I'm a little confused about Jack Russell registration. Are you or Jack Parsons? Or simply Parsons in the U.S.? What is the real difference? Why are AKC registered, but Canada Kennel Club member? I live in Canada and I have my terrier to a good breeder registered in Canada, recorded only his terriers with The Jack Russell Terrier Club of Canada and the United States, but ..... she did not call them "Parsons Russell Terrier. It fits the AKC / UKC standard perfectly and has an outstanding pedigree full of / hunting and conformation champions. I heard some enthusiasts do not want the ERC recognized breed because they want to retain the ability deminished work and not race through the production for demonstration purposes only. All in all I am confused.
Jack Russell has shorter legs that Pastor Russell.
