thanks to all who answered - i asked the question because after our morning walk she falls fast asleep - and then she pretends to fall asleep or runs to her bed when its time for her second walk : )

1. Puppies, even JRT puppies, spend more time sleeping than awake. And most dogs (maybe not BC's--who never sleep) don't stay awake all day and then sleep all night. They take naps during the day (even short ones), especially if they're getting exercise.

2. No, an hour a day isn't too much, either for a puppy or a JRT.

3. Besides the exercise, you should start working on some other stuff with your JRT puppy.
--it's never too early to start working on obedience. Keep the lessons short, fun and always end with a success (so your dog associates working with you as "playing with you").
--especially with JRT's it''s never too early to start working on control. The whole concept of "leave it" is critical for some dogs so they learn to go from wild dawg to under-control instantly. You can get a tug toy, pull with your puppy than command "leave it" so the puppy let's go and falls into a down-stay. Wait 3-5 seconds, then enthusiastically treat. It's true that JRT's have tremendous energy. But some come off as crack-heads and others are smart, athletic, great at tricks, little dogs. A big part of which one you end up with is if you train the dog to learn to control herself.
--tricks. For right now, the obedience training will constitute "tricks." And no jumping or leaps until she's a year old (and growth plates are finished). But you can work with your dog on tricks. And there is a reason why Hollywood and TV commercials like to use JRT's for tricks--they learn quickly, are agile, athletic and just eat this stuff up like a bowl of sirloin!
