I am getting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - any tips/pointers?
I am getting an eight week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel next month. I have done so much reading on this dog but I'm after people with first hand experience to give me some tips/pointers...for everything - training, what to expect, temperament, etc
I've had them before. They are beautiful dogs. They are so intelligent and understand what you want. They are THE most loving dogs ever. They are great with kids of all ages. They have not the greatest road sense so they are very vulnerable when it comes to the road. They can be easily taught to do anything and don't dig and bark much. They shed very little and will always be cute. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's magnificent coat will benefit from regular brushing. As the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are incredibly cute to look at and love, they can be cuddled and kissed and they love every single bit! Like all puppies they should be taken to puppy-pre school for socializing. They love other dogs and are RARELY aggressive. They are great with smaller animals eg. rodents, rabbits, puppies... You must brush regularly to prevent the coat from matting. They should NOT sleep outside because as puppies they are very sensitive to cold weather. Under 15-10 degrees is not good for them to stay in. Anyways why would you let a beautiful puppy stay out side? ( I'm telling you this because most dog owners actually let their pets sleep outside) how upsetting. They shouldn't be left alone for long periods of time because they are companion dogs. ( Children must be able to cooperate and understand that the dog is actually a dog not a plaything so toddlers may not be very good with a Cav puppy as they pull hair and do all kinds of silly things. Young kids must be supervised with dogs of any breed)
