Landseer Newfoundland Dog Breeder Q&A
My pup's mother is Great Pyr-Golden Retriever X. The sire should be a Newfie, but my pup has short hair. Why?
The breeding was witnessed and the breeder is adamant that her female did not breed to another dog. My pup, at 4 1/2 months, has short hair (1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches) and the coloring of a Red Malamute with the 'mask' pattern and all. The sire is supposed to be a black and white Landseer Newfoundland and the dam is a white half-Pyr, half-Golden Retriever. How is this possible? I thought longhair was recessive, and where did that pattern come from?
Its hard to tell what combo you will have when you breed mixed dogs...
