Large Non Shedding Dog Q&A

Large non-shedding dog, is there such a breed?

Our family has wanted a big dog for quite sometime. The problem is, it's hard to find a large dog that is hypoallergenic, or non-shedding. The only ones I can really think of is standard poodles and schnauzers.

I think I would prefer a purebred dog, for temperament really. But then I've been hearing a lot about labradoodles, and goldendoodles? Do they shed? ALSO, the less hair the better. We have a Bichon Frise and the grooming is ridiculous.

Thanks in advance!
To everyone who pointed out that all dogs shed, yes I am aware. I just meant a dog that sheds to a minimal. Like poodles and shih-zhus.

And dogs like Wirehaired Pointing Griffons aren't very common, or at least I've never come across a wirehaired pointing griffon breeder. Poodles would be a great choice, but the grooming! Like I said, I have a Bichon who requires a lot of it, a poodle would only be a larger version on her.

Dont fall for the "labradoodle" thing.. there are NO reputable breeders of mixed breed dogs! Period! They are mixed breed dogs with un predictable traits and qualities.. it doesnt matter what "F" factor the dog is.. a mutt is a mutt.. they still shed, and there's no guarantees that it will have the "poodle" coat.

Responsible breeders breed to improove and preserve a breed. Purposly bred mixes are only created for profit to make pets.. since the traits are not predictable its impossible to preserve and improove.

I also hate the "Get a dog that has hair and not fur", or the "human like hair"... ALL DOGS HAVE DOG HAIR! There is NO difference between hair and fur! Its all the SAME THING! http://dogplay.com/Articles/MyArticles/hair_vs_fur.html

Most of the "hypoallergenic" breeds have the long coats, like a poodle. Something about the low-shedding coats creates less dander.

Shorter coats shed more because they have a shorter growth cycle and a longer shedding cycle than a dog with a longer coat...

Here's a few medium - large, low-shedding breeds..

poodles
portugese water dog
airedale terrier
standard or giant schnauzer
irish water spaniel
Kerry Blue terrier
Komondor
puli
soft coated wheaten terrier
welsh terrier
wire fox terrier

Or you can go no shedding.. there are the Peruvian Inca Orchid and the Standard Xoloitzcuintle, which are both large hairless breeds (the skin care is alot of work tho)

Large Non Shedding Dog Q&A

Just wondering ....?

What kind of dog would you recommend to someone who has to have a dog, lint-free. Must be a small dog as I live in a small house and no has room for a larger dog. It may be a short or long hair ... I do not care as I can keep my dog groomed and healthy. I add that., I had a 17 year old Beagle and covered it and did not bother my allergies much until I got older. By that time, I had had for years and there was no way to give up. :) I am your last November, and now I am looking to getting another dog ... but my doctor has recommended a race not to spill So .. I have some ideas of the dogs that would good for me, then I can watch the race (or mixture of races) and read about them. :) Thank you, "he replied. Thanks for your videos. They help me decide what type of dog. lol @ chain. I suppose the imaginary dogs would be very easy to train, too. Cat in ... I had heard that Chihuahuas shed some ... but not I know for sure.

Hello! I'm sorry you lost your beagle, it sounds like you're ready to save another friend. One of my nieces have allergies very severe and I just I have a Bichon Frise, no problems at all with that race. She has problems with my Chihuahua mix, but I had no problems with poodles or Schnauzer. Here is a list used to find the dog and when she came into my Bichon rescue group, it was just the right match. Dogs are considered good for Allergy If a breed is not listed here does not necessarily mean that race is not a good dog for allergy sufferers. I'm sure there are many races that I I'm just not aware of:. Note Allergies One person can vary greatly from another person.
