Newfoundland Dog Breeders Ohio Q&A
newfoundland good dog for me?
ok im thinking about getting a newfoundland puppy from a reliable long time friend who's a breeder.
I've done my research and know that this is like the most extreme swimming dog ever. I have an inground pool and also have the time to take him to lakes and ponds if needed.
i know they're a large breed and prefer cold climates due to all of their fur. i live in ohio and we have cold winters but warm summers.
i dont think they need all that much excersise but i have the time to play and also have a 4 ac-her yard, and a "bigger" 3 story home heating and air-conditioning (and its not like i have a masion... i wish i did)
and what i wnt to know is, is my living conditions good enough for this dog. Also please tellme any additional info on what newfies like how i should care for them.
thanks-
sounds like you have the perfect set up for a newfie. just keep in mind that they need a very good quality food, like reel tough toys to chew (kongs lots of them) . when there a pup a couple of walks a day is good or that pool ! i have a newfie and i wish i had an in ground pool ! the only concern is the stairs you don't want your newfie going up and down alot of stairs. just a few to go out and come back in is ok but up until the age of 2ish you want to avoid flights. My boy is 16 months and only drools when he has had water to drink. the vet visits are costly, but worth every cent !
if you decide to get one you should join the yahoo newfoundland dog group, great people with lots of advice.
i wish you luck
