Is an American Staffordshire Terrier the same as a pitbull?
I have an american staffordshire terrier and I have to pay pitbull insurance in Ohio. Which is completely retarded. Anyway i was looking in the American Kennel club and it said this I copied and pasted it and did not put it in my own words:
it became known as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier in England. When accepted for AKC registration in 1936, the name changed to American Staffordshire Terrier to reflect the heavier American type and to distinguish them as separate breeds.
I should not have to pay for insurance so does anyone think I could have a chance to fight this. And please do not bash my dog because I do not take it very lightly. Thanks!
No they are TWO different breeds.
But many people mistake them for being the same because they have similar, body structures, like blocky heads, wide muzzles, good muscle tone, and a wide chest.
Stafford's tend to be larger and more stockier then American Pit Bull Terriers and they tend to have larger heads, but are shorter.
APBTs are taller, more long legged and steam-lined, but they still have a blocky head, and good muscle tone similar to the APBT.
Though they are two different breeds they still do have the same personality as a whole because both of the breeds are terriers, and can easily be confused.
I believe NO ONE should pay insurance to keep a dog, rather it is an APBT or Staffordshire Bull Terrier. BSL and Insurance are bogus.
