Why are dogs at shelters so much more expensive now?
Last year or even 6 months ago, they were $75, now they're almost $200! I mean they'd probably get more adoptions if they lowered their prices. I think they would get the money they needed if they kept it at the price they had. No one's adopting dogs these days because of how expensive they are. I want to get a little Lhasa Apso or Pomeranian from a shelter and I have the money to pay for vets and everything, it's just I hate paying 200-300 for the dog itself. Anyone know any shelters that have dogs under $100 in North Georgia? As cheap and rude as it sounds I'm just picky! I'm sorry! I can't go without a dog in my life, I love them too much. If I end up not finding one under $100 then I'll pay 200 but if I can find one under that I'm going to take it =] Please don't take me as a bad dog owner, I just want to save money, and as I said earlier I can't live without a dog!
Everything these days are more exenpisve. From gas to food to insurance, it's no surprise things like shelter dog fees have hyped up several dollars.
It does cost a lot of money to care for a dog. If a dog comes in as a stray or they rescued it from bad owner, they would have to put a lot of money into it (vet care, feeding, housing, training testing, etc.). I know some shelters went up because of overpopulation, and they are trying their best to keep as many dogs as they can.
Why don't you go ahead and ask this same question to the shelters you were checking out. They would be able to give you the correct answer!
