Sry another question on bulldogs..pug/beagle hybrid?
I actually have a few.. first off alot of purebred dogs are really expensive when you by them from breeders.. but why are bulldogs in the thousands? Is it because they pay alot of money for the c-section birth?
Also, is it bad to buy a dog that is mixed with a bulldog and other breeds?
bulldogs are expensive because
1) they are prone to a lot of health issues, so the breeders put extra cost into more genetic health tests
2) they often cannot mate naturally, AI is often required.. it costs to collect, store and use semen.
3) yes they often do need cecarians.
4) AI doesnt always take, so a breeder is often lucky to get ONE litter from a female, and it may take several attempts to get a litter out of her.. also despite being 50+ pds dogs, they tend to have smaller litters.. 4-5 pups.
So now add in all the costs, and only a few pups to sell, that's why they are expensive.
There's nothing wrong with ADOPTING a mix from a shelter or rescue. But you should NEVER "buy" from a breeder or petshop, as that only supports irresponsible breeding.

High protein diet in dogs - pros and cons?
My 2 dogs (a pug and French bulldog pug mix) currently eating Canidae for all life stages. I am thinking of switching to Innova EVO. Suddenly I'm listening the negative effects of high protein diets (more than 20 to 25% .. innovation EVO is 42%). Such as increased aggressiveness, kidney problems, etc. Any of you heard this? Or have any experience with it:? NOTE My dogs are exercised at an average grade, but they are very active (not working dogs, etc, obviously). We have walks / playing time during the week, and visits to the dog park from 2 to 3 hours every weekend. They keep each other busy and played for about 3 hours per day. but nothing end in the form of the activity / exercise
Canidae is a food so well that no change, especially if their dogs like it and are doing well on it. Your dogs sound like they get their exercise through their game, and are not overweight then I would not worry.
