Puppy is a full lab female-the sire is registered-the dam is limited registration?
on the papers given to me with the new pup-the sire is registered with the american kennel club and it even has his parents. the Dam, says it is a limited registration, lists her parents and includes their information with the american kennel assct, as well, but I am not able to recognize this pup as a decendent of them, because of its dam having a limited registration. What does this all mean, and what will it take to do so for my lil' Maxine? ( this is the lab pup in question)
i wonder if it has anything to do with breeder's competition in surrounding area?
Oh my Gosh are you all so Miss informed about Limited registration!!
As a former breeder of Goldens all my pups went out to their new homes with limited registration. Why? Because I didn't want anyone to use them as breeding stock. And muddy up my good name as a breeder. Limited registration mean that the dog can compete in any AKC function except best of breed, because they can't be used as a sire or breeding dam. You can breed the dog but can't get the litter registered with AKC.
Has nothing to do with the quality of the dog!!!! At least not with me it didnt. It was to protect my lines. Maybe some other breeders out there use that as a way of getting around things but I never did. Then there the question of show quality and pet quality dogs too. Thats a whole other book!
What this means to you my dear is that you have a pure bred Lab that you can't register with AKC or any other dog registrator. If you breed this dog you can't get any paper for the litters. You can't enter any AKC functions with this dog either. So why bother!
Enjoy your new lab and don't listen to those who don't know what they are talking about.
