Which breed should I get?
I'm getting a dog but I don't know which breed I should get. I have done all the proper research I should and I have talked to various reputable breeders but I'm still unsure which breed I should get. Here's my list
Chinese Shar Pei
Chow Chow
Basenji
Azawakh
Afghan Hound
Saluki
Scottish Deerhound
or
Sloughi
These breeds of dogs are not drastically different. Anyone who thinks that is obviously not familiar with any of these breeds. All but two are sighthounds which act similarly and the two that aren't sighthounds are both related and have an independent personality just like all the rest of them.
You say you have talked to various breeders but have any of them taken the time to examine your list and helped you to compare "their" breed with the others, discussing all the pros and cons? Those breeds are all very different and all have their pluses and their minuses and the breeders should have gone into a lot more detail with you - or you would not need to be asking us here! Nobody can tell you which breed to get - that is a very personal choice - and one that has to be given a lot of thought since the puppy will be a member of your household for anywhere from 10 - 15 years (depends on the breed). I would go back to the breeders and see what they say when you ask them to help you compare their breed with the others - and if they dont want to do this - find another breeder! Not only do you want a "reputable" breeder but you need one that you can talk to and discuss things with, as they will be your support system when you have questions and need help with your puppy, no matter what breed you choose to get.
