My family really wants a Shweenie (shih-tzu Daschund mix). How do we find a breeder?
We would love to have this type of dog, but we don't know where to find a safe/kind breeder near the Pittsburgh area. any suggestions?
I'm sorry I must have miss read your question either that or almost everyone else did. I did not realize you asked if this was a mutt or not. just because all of you have in your mind if it is not pure it is not good where ever this kind of thinking came from it drives me crazy. and by the way yes reputable breeders do breed mutts what do you think a poodle is it is made of two breeds put together or almost any AKC registered dog out ther was a mutt to begin with till the AKC desicded to recognize them. who know soon perhaps these will be rocongnize also and all you who called them mutts will have to find another dog to call a mutt.

as to where to find one of these cute little dogs I would google it just because they are mixed breed does not mean they are not a good breeder. do you have a local classifieds online I like www.ksl.com in our state there is a classifieds area when you click on it there is pets and in pets dogs this would be the first place I would look or try and find one in your state. it is true some back yard breeders are not good but not all of them I got my dog from a back yard breeder and at 8 weeks old he was already sitting shaking and almost fetching he loved children and had been raised with them so he was really good with them. some high quality breeders as they call them that breed only pure breeds don't allow children to play with their puppies so they are not good with children nor do they work with them so there are pros and cons to back yard breeders just as there are to the others. besides pure breed dogs have a lot more genetic problems than mixed breed and usually are lot more hyper.
also if you have young children please be careful when adopting an adult dog you do not know how it was raised and how it will be with your children. I rescue and I'm all for adopting but I do not suggestion it if you have children under the age of 7.
there are pros and cons to all breeders even AKC certified breeders I can give examples of two AKC breeders in my home town that are nothing more than a puppy farm one of them has three females and breeds them twice a year each. they are acutally certified and recommend by the aKC yet they are nothing more than a puppy mill in my eyes. Yet I know a lady that is a so called back yard breeder that spends hours a day training her puppies and will not allow them to leave her home till 8 weeks of age she only breeds her 1 female 1 time every two years and all of her puppies are presold before they even come. so there is good and bad in all. and no I'm not kidding. just because they are not papered dogs or pure breed does not mean that they are a bad breeder. some of us prefer the non pure breeds I have owned both Sibeirain Huskies and Alaskan Huskies and I prefer the Alaskan over the Siberian it is a harder worker it is not as hyper and they have less genetic problems. ask almost any sled runner and they will agree with me the mixed Alsaskan is prefered over the pure Sibe it just all depends on your preferance and those of us who prefer the Mutts as you call them have a right to do so just as you have a right to prefer the Pure breeds. and yes I'm sure that in the furture there will be some of these mutts admitted into the AKC. just as in the past.

Our Shih Tzu dog still has milk after puppies?
Our Shih Tzu has recently had her first litter of puppies. Before she had them, 1-2 days before, her breasts were really big and lumpy and we may have been the mastitis by the look of them, but they were fine, while the pups were drinking. Not long ago, they became great / packages again and after a drink of the puppies returned to normal. Now all the puppies are gone, the four tits again, as before, are really huge / fallen and lumpy, which seem to have a lot of milk. I'm not jumping to conclusions, because we have a veterinary application on Wednesday. Our farmer friend said it may be able to get a tablet, like humans can get to drink the milk out of breasts. However, we heard the mothers after weaning may have mastitis, anyone experienced this before with their dogs? I am very interested in knowing more about it, thanks a lot cheers and happy new year! X
Some dogs never ever be as they were before raising a litter, but usually only the sinking, not "the total collapse. Reduce protein to begin with. Do not mess with nipples, as this will continue to encourage breastfeeding. You vet will be able to give something to help disperse the milk too, but before watching, just keep an eye on your nipples to make sure it does not develop mastitis. If you do, you will need to carry out their assignment.
