does puppy size predict adult size?
I am trying to choose between two different Greater Swiss Mountain Dog puppies who are different sizes out of a litter of 8. One is the smallest of the litter and has a smaller head and smaller paws than the rest of them and the other is around the size of the others with a larger head and more proportioned body than the other puppy. They are currently 6 weeks of age and the breeder predicts that the smaller one will be around 100 pounds and the bigger will be larger boned and around 125-130. Is it accurate to predict this at this age or could the smaller one eventually out grow the rest?
I've never had any luck determining adult size out of my pups. Out of 7 litters the biggest pup has NEVER ended up being the largest adult and 3 times the runt has ended up being the biggest adult of its sex.
I do know that my raw fed dogs tend to be slower at growth than their kibble fed littermates.. but the raw fed dogs catch up and often surpass their littermates in size as adults.
Depending on how experienced the breeder is, they may be more accurate than I've managed to be.
