Swiss Mountain Dog Breeders Colorado Q&A
Do I have any legal rights with this puppy?
I recently purchased a puppy from a pet store on 9/12. I was told this puppy was a Bernese mountain dog, and I have paper work from the store stating that it is. It has he name of the breeder, as well as the puppys parents. None of this information is researchable as nothing is registered. The parent's registration is pending with UKCI, which from what I gather is a registration agency that accepts anything and everything and holds no real value. I believe my dog is not a bernese mountain dog, It appears to me to be a Swiss mountain dog. (same markings but short hair and a stockier dog) I am no expert but looking at pictures its obvious to me that something isn't right with the dog.
Do I have any legal recourse with this? I'm perfectly happy with the dog and want to keep him, but he is not what I paid $550 for. I would have not bought him if I knew he was a swiss mountain dog.
If there are any details I'm missing please ask and I'll add any details. This is in Colorado.
The main question for you is this. If you are happy with the dog and don't want to give him up then you are not going to be able to get your money back. Yes, you can complain, but you will only be given the option to return the dog and get your money back, or keep the dog and that's it. Sometimes you can get part of your money back but it's very "ify." Next time just make sure that the sire and bitch both have papers and a family history. Yes, the AKC does a geneaology just like for people. If the breeders can't provide you with those for both parents then the odds are that the puppy will not be registerable.
