getting prepared to welcome my new super tiny long coat chihuahua. what would i need?
i was going to get myself a yorkie but i decided against it since it's so hard to maintain their coats. instead i found a chihuahua breeder. she's going to be selling me my new baby in exactly 5 weeks so i'm very excited. i don't really know what to expect since i've never had such a small chihuahua. the woman said that she doesn't believe in "teacups" or "pocketbook" or "toy" chihuahuas, and that's mainly why i chose to purchase my puppy from her. the only reason i chose the smallest one was because we got along great and i wanted to chose the right dog that would like me not a dog that i like because of it's looks or size. so what should i expect and what should i prepare for before i finally get her?
When it comes to preparing your home, it’s almost as if you’re preparing for a child. Make sure any electrical cords or anything else that you don’t want chewed are put away or covered. Chihuahua puppies are very curious creatures and will chew on anything, particularly if they’re bored, nervous or frustrated. Make sure you have plenty of chew toys available so that your puppy has something to do. You’ll also want to get a collar and a leash. The best part about owning a Chihuahua puppy is that it won’t grow to be much bigger so you probably won’t go through various sizes of collars. One collar should be enough to accommodate your puppy’s size. you will need to get some supplies that your puppy will need to grow big and strong, such as food and water. A simple bowl for each will suffice. The bowls can be made of metal, plastic or even glass. Ask your vet what food you should feed your puppy. You’ll need to be careful because some food can interact poorly with your dog’s digestive system. As far as water goes, fresh, clean water is perfect. Caring for your Chihuahua pup requires that you be very careful and gentle with your puppy. Make sure you pay attention to where you sit and walk, as it is very easy to sit on or walk on your new puppy. Don’t be afraid to play with your puppy, as Chihuahua puppies are very playful. They will require lots of love and attention, which includes everything from brushing, to playing to training. As long as you show your dog lots of attention, you’ve got the care part down perfectly.
