Teacup Maltese Breeder Q&A

How much should my puppy weigh?

I have a 12 week old maltese and he is under 2 lbs. Is that normal? Is he undersized for his age? The male/female parents looked a little smaller than normal when I saw them with the breeder, but the puppies weren't advertised as "teacups" because I would have walked away if they did. In the contract it says they cannot guarantee size, but I was just curious if he is going to be smaller than the normal 5-7 lbs. There seems to be a lot of weight differenecs with the maltese that i've seen.

There really are alot of differences. Of course, there is no such thing as a "Tea cup" maltese. A maltese is a maltese. The breed standard is 4-6 lbs full grown. I have a 14 wk old who is already 4 lbs. As long as you have had him to the vet and he is eating, drinking, playing and using the bathroom ok, he is fine. Just ask your vet if you feel he is unhealthy. 2 lbs is an ok weight and this might mean that he will be smaller as an adult. My puppy comes from parents who are 6lbs each, so she will be on the higher end. Your pup may be on the lower end of the full grown weights. But by all means, feed him a good, quality puppy food and make sure he is acting normal, ect. Please dont ever underfeed him because you want him to stay small (I only saying this because many people try to do this)

Teacup Maltese Breeder Q&A

Is there such thing as a teacup Maltese?

I'm hearing a lot of ads and as "Maltese teacup" puppies. This is because during the past two months, I've been looking for a Maltese puppy from my Maltese for 12 years had died. I've been checking Petfinder, adoption services, local ads and web sites with breeders information almost daily. Before purchasing a puppy, I need to know, is a "teacup Maltese", because there I'm skeptical. Thanks in advance for your answers.

NO. They are not healthy race of dwarfs midgets little litters. Have poor genetics and die earlier. The people selling small dog with the name "cup" in front of the race for the ignorant people lose thousands of dollars on them.
