aussie/ australian shepherd question?
he is roughly about 8 yrs of age if that has anything to do with it. hes has toys but wont play with them-kong filled or unfilled,tennis ball, rope toy, chew toy. he will play with the tennis ball for about 5 mins and will stop and lay down and then wont play anymore. i thought that australian shepherd never tired out really but he just wont play with anything else please help. and what are some toys that your aussies really like ty
ive had him since he was a puppy and nothing in his life has changed no family members leaving
Aussies and Border Collies are both very intelligent dogs. They get bored easily and you have to give them "jobs" to do. They can be taught to do just about anything, from bringing in the mail to taking out the trash. They can even learn to put their toys away in a toy box. Anything you can teach a 4 year old child (short of reading) you can teach an Aussie.
You asked what kind of toys they like? Frisbees! Teach him to do Frisbee tricks. Also, they like obstacle courses. They can climb ladders, go through tunnels and jump over things. They do have boundless energy, but you have to challenge their minds or they become destructive.
But then if your guy is 8 years old, he may be feeling his age a bit. They live to be about 14. Have him checked out at the Vet just to be sure he's not sick.
