Toy Poodle Akc Breeders Q&A
Are tiny toy poodles, teacup poodles,or pocket poodles AKC registered ?
Are they recognized by the AKC?when buying a poodle is it something to consider? Some breeders think so but some dont.If you want a fully registered, recognizable poodle would those tiny ones be a good idea?could they compete in championships?please help me.thanks
Poodles are registered with AKC. It recognizes three varieties (sizes): Toy, Miniature and Standard.
All other sizes are just gimmicks by irresponsible breeders to sell more dogs at higher prices.
Yes, I'd say it's definitely something to consider. Words like "teacup" or "tiny toy" or "pocket" are tipoffs that it's an irresponsible breeder. "Toy" is a proper term to use for the small size Poodles.
Registration with AKC is not a sign of quality. Registration with other pseudo registries (basically any all-breed registries in America besides AKC and United Kennel Club) is a sign of poor quality.
If you want to compete for a championship, the dog needs to be registered with AKC or UKC. Preferably AKC if you're just getting started since there are more shows in AKC. You also need to find a dog from a good breeder. Look for a breeder that shows herself. This kind of person is likely producing quality puppies, can judge the quality of her puppies and tell you if it will likely be show-quality, and can mentor and guide you as you show your dog.
To find out more about the breed, quality breeders and showing, visit the Poodle Club of America: http://www.poodleclubofamerica.org/
Good luck!

Toy Poodle Akc Breeders Q&A
Toy Poodle breeder HELP!
I could buy a toy poodle breeder who lives this close to me. I never met this person, but I saw posted on the Internet. This is what she said its announcement including veterinary examination. Mother AKC registered and father is a purebred, no papers. $ 350 each. Is it safe for me to buy a puppy from her? His home is near the beach.
Impossible to say either way based on so little information. Make an appointment, turn around and see the puppies, seeing mom and dad. Are they healthy? Fat, thin, young-old, happy or unhappy? Ask about any health test (ERP, etc) to parents. Ask about how it operates the breeder. How litters a year. Get a feel for the place. Then make a decision.
