Training Blue Heelers Q&A
How do you train a Blue Heeler to not bite everything in site?
I just got a Blue Heeler/Shepherd Mix eight week old puppy. I know that the Blue Heeler breed likes to bite or chew everything in site, especially ankles because their breed chases cattle. My niece got bit today by the dog for no reason. I know that he is a puppy but he is chewing everything in site!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
First, to the idiot that put down there red heeler due to it herding/biting. WTH???. It is your fault you did not correct this behavior. Some people do not need to own animals, you are the poster boy.
This breed is a herder, second nature to nip, herd heels of livestock, people. This dogs ancestor being a dingo. This behavior can be broken on nipping peoples heels. The dog/pup will need obedience training from a proffesional. It is not too early to start. A well trained dog from a herding breed will know when and what to herd and when and whom not to. Our dogs all herd cattle on command. They sit quietly and respectfully to our family. To strangers they are up and aware.
At your pups age, the chewing as well is due to pain of there teeth, puppy teeth are working in/out. Leave as many puppy bisquits and toys, rawhides out as possible to keep the pup occupied and busy.
Please invest in some training if you plan on keeping this pup, and keeping him/her out of trouble with animal control.
Please research this breed, it would have been wise to do so before getting the pup. Petfinder is full of ACD/Heelers due to people getting them for there looks not knowing a thing about this very active breed, and then discarding them when they become too much for them to handle around cats, horses and sometimes even children if they are not socialized when young

Training Blue Heelers Q&A
Blue Heeler?
I am a new owner of a cute puppy blue heeler. I've trained dogs before and all very good. Now I was told that blue heelers are completely different from any other breeds of dogs and need to be trained and treated differently. Well, I know that blue heelers are actually working dogs, caddle care, I know have to keep them entertained and ocupied and they are supposed to take for long walks. I just want to know if anyone has some good advice for me about training them and if someone could let me know what is so completely different to other races is really appreciated.
The biggest difference between Blue Heelers and other dogs meeting is that these little ones are very agile. I have helped many people with blue heelers because they are so fast and I would never recommend anyone with children to get one. Other than that, not much difference between them and say German shepherds. I'll make this suggestion, make sure you walk every day. If you can only walk for 30 minutes that's good, but I have to do here is get a doggie bag. This will drain the energy of the dog and make them work harder. Never leave a puppy of any race under 2 years of age at home without supervision. They chew chew chew. Another tip, if you can not take a walk, watch a treadmill. You can train any dog to walk on a treadmill.
