If huskies have such strong pack instincts, why aren't they good off leash?
So I know that huskies are never to be trusted off leash cause they can just run away. But I've read that huskies have strong pack instincts. So shouldn't they want to stay near their pack? So shouldn't they not run away?
Beacause I also know that Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs have very strong pack instincts too. And if a pack member wanders off, they get very worried. Swissies are very good off leash. You almost don't have to train them to not run away.
So im just curious if Huskies also have strong pack instincts, why dont they stay near their pack(owner)?

Any pack will do.
There is a reason that Siberian huskies are so easy to swap from sleddog team to sleddog team, and so easy to re-home ; they generally like everyone, and their attachments are fluid.
As someone else said, pack instinct is not loyalty. They like to have company, but that company can be in various forms. It doesn't have to be YOU.
There is a truism when letting Siberians off-lead -- let one off-lead, it might stick around for awhile before it takes off. Let two off-lead, and they are GONE. As long as a Siberian has a buddy, they will go forever, or until something interesting catches their attention.

I could get a puppy and can not decide between these two species. We want that's a good watchdog with 5 year old child and grandparents. Seek quality education, protection, behavior and care. Thanks:)
go to an animal shelter and give them your criteria and help you find a puppy you need a big house like yours!
