How do we get started showing our dog in the dog show?
I have showed cats for many years, household class only. This time I have a full-blooded, registered West Highland White Terrier. He was born 2.12.08. His father was AKC, mother APRI. He is APRI at the moment, but we need to pay the fee on our side, and we plan to CKC register him as well. We plan on offering him for stud service and know he must stay intact.
1. Is he too young to be shown?
2. What other organizations can I register him with?
3. We lost his APRI papers with his parents names and the bill of sale from the breeders, I emailed the breeder. Can I get a duplicate copy of the regsistration from APRI?
Anything else I need to know?
We don't care if its a fancy AKC or Westminster dog show. We just want to do it in the amateur sense. CKC and APR do have small local shows. Do your research.
Unfortunantly if the mother is registered with APRI. Then you cannot show your dog in the AKC dog shows. The AKC doesn't view APRI registered dogs as being pure bred. How ever you can get your dog neutered and he then can compete in obedienance trials and Agility with the AKC. But he cannot be shown in Comformation.

EDIT: Yes you can show your dog with APRI. Check out their website and look at the Forum. People on that site will help you with getting your dog in the show ring with APRI. I wanted to show my dogs with APRI but all the shows are held far away in other states rather than mine.

i always like to keep a look out for West Highland White Terrier (Westie) for sale relatively cheap or free to good home. My family and I we had three, and my brother and I were talking about that I think would be an ideal birthday gift for my mom to get another one, for her, and be a little companion to our we have now. if you know of a place where I can find one for relatively cheap or free to good home, please let me know. I wanted to add, our westie we have now is a rescue group and we are very happy with him, he is a awesome dog, and the group rescue was probably some of the finest people I've tried. I did not know whether they had a website tho, so thank you "frozen."
why not try a rescue group. a responsible breeder never puts a snap here, or in the newspaper ... using the AKC website. a rescue group is much better, it is a health guarantee, all shots, neutered, socialized pets, well-rounded.
