Are white German shepherds more higher maintance than regular German Shepherds?
I heard you had to put sunscreen on their ears when they go outside. Any other stuff. Plus are German shepherds good around cats and lil' kids, like they won't snap at them will they?
I always laugh when people say they are badly bred. The white gene is recessive, so both parents must be either white or carry the white gene to get a white GSD. If both parents are white, all the puppies will be white, just like 2 blue eyed parents are blue eyed children. If both parents are coloured, but carry the white recessive gene, then 1 or 2 puppies may be white. So, if we go back to "they are badly bred", this means that all coloured GSD that carry the white gene, but are not white themselves are also badly bred. I mean, really!!!.
They do not need sunscreen on their ears. I own one myself, and had one previously. I live in Perth Australia, and the summers are really hot here, never had a problem with either of my dogs. We have a cat, again no problem at all. I have 2 children, and the dogs have never bitten them or their friends. As with all large dogs, you have to do obedience and make sure you have full control of your dog. You have to make sure the dog understands its place in the family so it will not challenge the kids. We have been happy with both our dogs.
