Yorkie Akc Dog Breeders Q&A

Why does my "purebred" Yorkie have Poodle characteristics?

We have a yorkie who is now a year and a couple weeks old. He has really big ears, and they don't stand up, I think they stood up for about a week and then they just droop down. Also his coat when it is longer has a little bit of a wave to it, it's not completely smooth and straight. My friend who is a avid dog-lover and has worked at a local pet store for years now says he could be a yorkie-poo. We got him from the breeder who said he is a full purebred Yorkie, is this common in some or could he have Poodle in his bloodlines? He is AKC reg and I don't think he does. Thanks any answers will help!

Probably just not a show quality Yorkie. Is he a nice dog? Do you love him? That's pretty much all you need to know!

You anti-AKC folks are a hoot! You're idiots and you don't have the first clue what you are talking about, but you are a hoot. You should shut up now, before even more people see how ignorant you are.

Yorkie Akc Dog Breeders Q&A

When and how I can enter my yorkie in a dog show?

Hi, I have some questions and maybe this time I will not get a bunch of idiots answering my question! Well first I was thinking about going into my yorkie an AKC dog show, but I think I have to have my dog trained when I first went on the website some information, but has not yet found what he sought, so I thought this might me a good way to get some answers from Nice respectful people have done this before. and second my Yorkie is about 2 or 3 weeks old and now weighs 1.4 pounds and I do not know how big it will get because the breeder has not yet received much information I give all I said was come to be about 6 or 7 pounds, but I did not believe her and wanted to know when is the right time to enter it at a dog show. Third I want to know is to dogs in a fun dog show for them or do not stress? so I would like answers that arent stupid and PROFESSTIONALS ONLY! thanks

, I can now that your dog is not a quality event. If the breeder is to be 2-3 weeks of age, the breeder is probably horrible dog breeding quality. Not to mention, is illegal to sell dogs before they are 8 weeks old. I report this breeder if I were you. It's great that you are interested in showing dogs. I check out the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America (http://www.ytca.org/) and find a breeder that way. Find a breeder in your area and explain that you would like to learn to show dogs. This is an excellent page on the subject http://www.akc.org/events/conformation/getting_started_showing.cfm
